Fernando Del Canto has extended his interest in justice and identity to the realm of documentary film, collaborating with Almutafilm to produce works that explore memory, displacement, and the human condition. In Las llaves de la memoria (The Keys to Memory, 2016), directed by Jesús Armesto, he revisits the forgotten legacy of Al-Andalus, addressing the historical erasure of Islamic culture in Spain and its consequences for contemporary identity and coexistence. The film, praised for its poetic narrative and intellectual depth, was well received in academic and cultural circles across Spain.
In 2018, Del Canto produced Los Burgueses de Calais, la última frontera (The Bourgeois of Calais, the Last Frontier), also directed by Armesto, which gives voice to migrants stranded in Calais, exposing the failings of European asylum policies. These films reflect Del Canto’s broader commitment to human rights, intercultural dialogue, and the transformative power of storytelling.
